Drug crimes can have a lasting impact on one’s future

| Nov 13, 2018 | Drug Crimes |

The drug crisis continues unabated in Texas and around the country. A recent case in Fort Worth involved an alleged chain of events that reportedly included injuries as a result of an alleged shooting and carjacking.  The string of events was started by a supposed drug deal that could lead to charges for drug crimes.

Four people were taken into custody following the string of events that were alleged to have occurred near Mitchell Boulevard and U.S. Highway 287. A drug deal reportedly turned into a robbery that escalated into a shootout in which two men, including a teenager, were wounded. The suspects on both sides of the deal then attempted to flee the area during which they allegedly crashed their vehicles into multiple parked cars. A carjacking was reported a few blocks away and a short time after the shooting had taken place.

The police apprehended the four suspects and the two who were shot were taken to the hospital. One was reportedly shot in the arm and the other, the teenager, had reportedly been shot in the stomach. Investigators say they are checking six different crime sites for evidence. The search apparently turned up multiple firearms in addition to the four suspects who were taken into custody.

Being charged with drug crimes carries serious repercussions in the state of Texas. A conviction can have a detrimental impact on the remainder of a person’s life and can be devastating to a young person. Anyone facing drug charges is presumed innocent until — and only if — proven guilty. A defendant, particularly a teenage defendant, may be scared and confused and unsure of one’s rights. A person in such a situation should speak with an experienced criminal defense attorney who can review the facts of the case and help the client understand one’s rights and all the legal options that may be available.
