Man, woman charged with drug crimes following search of motel

Search warrants are often obtained by police officers in Texas when illicit activity is suspected. In many cases, information is provided to the police and they make a determination if further investigation is required. There are specific guidelines that must be followed to ensure that a search warrant is obtained legally and that procedures are properly followed. Recently, an arrest was made in Bexar County after a search warrant was obtained that resulted in two people being charged with alleged drug crimes.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, information was received about the supposed sale of drugs in motel room on the East Side. A man and woman were reportedly involved in the sale. Surveillance was set up outside the motel after a search warrant had been obtained.

Deputies stated that a man was heading toward his vehicle and was detained by the police. Officers reportedly entered the motel room without force, where they detained a female. Upon a search of the room and the vehicle, police purportedly discovered over 198 grams of methamphetamine and 21 grams of heroin. Two handguns, a rifle, 92 grams of marijuana and $11,770 in cash were also discovered, according to reports.

The woman was charged with possession of a controlled substance less than a gram. She may also face federal charges, pending further investigation. The man is said to be facing unspecified federal charges.

Penalties for drug crimes in Texas or in federal court can range from fines to significant time in jail. Anyone facing these charges should take them very seriously. It would be wise to contact an experienced criminal defense attorney for guidance. A knowledgeable lawyer will work on behalf of a client to see that rights are protected and all evidence in a case was obtained legally. A strong defense team will strive to minimize the negative impact of the charges on the client’s life.
