Drunk driving charge re the death of a Lyft passenger

Cars are necessary to be able to get from point A to point B in our busy daily lives. Sadly the increase in traffic leads to an increase in the likelihood of being involved in an accident. A serious accident in Texas very early one morning resulted in the death of a man returning home from a trip. The accident was allegedly the result of drunk driving.

A man was returning home from a trip and had summoned a Lyft car to get home from the airport. He was within five miles of his home when he texted his wife that he would be home soon. Shortly after that, a truck nearing an intersection reportedly clipped one vehicle, then continued through the intersection and collided with the Lyft car.

The passenger in the Lyft car was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was taken to a hospital in serious condition. He is now in a coma. The driver of the truck who is believed to have caused the crash has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault . He allegedly admitted to drinking at a local bar before the crash. The bar is cooperating with the investigation.

Facing charges for drunk driving in Texas can be very frightening and leave one feeling that one’s world is ending. Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law. There are rules and procedures around testing for sobriety, both at an accident scene and subsequently, and a defense attorney can review the procedures followed to identify legal and factual issues to address before the court. The lawyer can inform the client of his or her legal rights and work to safeguard those rights throughout the criminal justice process.
