2 men face charges related to drug crimes in Texas

Two men in Texas have been taken into custody for reportedly committing drug-related crimes. The arrests related to drug crimes took place following a traffic stop along U.S. Highway 71. The two men facing charges are ages 24 and 25.

Authorities said they received a report about a driver operating a car recklessly on the highway. At around 9:45 a.m., a police officer reportedly saw a car parked along the highway and approached it. In the car were the two Texas men.

According to police, the younger man possessed a substance that appeared to be marijuana. Police said they also found two big glass jars that contained the same substance, and together, the weight came in at around four pounds. Also in the car were suspected methamphetamine and clonazepam pills. Both of the men face felony charges involving possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The two men have the right to proceed to trial, where the prosecution must prove the criminal charges beyond a reasonable doubt. This standard exists in an effort to prevent innocent people from being sentenced for drug crimes or other types of crimes that they did not commit. However, an alternative to going to trial is to seek to negotiate a plea deal with the prosecution, as this may lead to a lighter sentence compared with what an accused individual may receive at trial following a guilty verdict. Either way, a criminal defense attorney in Texas will push for the best outcome for the client considering the facts of his or her criminal case.
